Sisterhood

Over the past many years Sisterhood has played a pivotal role in the life of Temple Sinai. Sisterhood offers a variety of opportunities for women to become active participants in congregational life. If you are a Sisterhood member, hopefully you have participated in our programs and activities. If not, you are invited to become a member of our Sisterhood and, in doing so, a member of Women of Reform Judaism (WRJ), the national organization to which our Sisterhood belongs.

  Overview

A quick review of the Temple Bulletin reveals the many opportunities Sisterhood makes available to women of all ages and interests. The purpose is to collectively express our Judaism by spending time socializing and to learning together. Sisterhood sponsors many events and provides much to Temple Sinai.

Did you know that Sisterhood members also support world-wide projects through our affiliation with WRJ? This organization, composed of over 100,000 women in North America, works to strengthen Reform Judaism around the world. WRJ founded the North American Federation of Temple Youth and the Jewish Braille Institute of America. WRJ is the largest annual contributor to the scholarship fund of the Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion. WRJ includes in its objectives the empowerment of women to be advocates on behalf of various issues.

Members of Sisterhood make a difference.
We will be stronger when you are counted among us.

PLEASE CONTINUE COLLECTING

Last year, Temple Sinai Sisterhood began an ongoing collection of the cosmetic and perfume samples given away as promotions by companies such as Clinique, Estee Lauder, Lancome, and others.

The small soaps, lipsticks (often in colors we don’t like) and tiny perfume vials which clutter our drawers are little treasures to women who have few possessions of their own.

These donations are being given to women living at the Prudence Crandall Center for Women which is a shelter for battered women and their children.

A basket is available near the usher’s desk during services and in the Temple office during the week. Please be generous. A flyer for you to take to work is near the basket so you can ask co-workers and friends to participate. Many thanks from the Sisterhood.

 How to Join

All women in the Congregation are encouraged to become Sisterhood members, and may join at any time during the year. Joining Sisterhood is a wonderful way to participate more fully in the life of the Temple, providing service and enjoying the rewards of working, learning and socializing with others. New members and new ideas are always welcome.

Dues are $25 annually. Women who are new members to the Congregation receive a complimentary year's membership in Sisterhood.

Please contact Randi Blum, Membership Chairperson, or any other Sisterhood officer through the Temple Office at 860-561-1055 if you would like more information about Sisterhood membership.
