Religious School

School begins on September 7.

A strong commitment to Jewish education is reflected in Temple Sinai's progressive Religious school program. Along with the approved URJ curriculum, our faculty accentuates Judaism through experience. Students may meet with a community group, participate in children's plays or musical events, or partake in a model Seder. We strive to give our children a true sense of community as they learn Hebrew, traditions, history and ethics. The Religious school teaches the children to actively celebrate their Judaism so that it becomes a part of their lives. The Rabbi, the Director and the Religious school Board provide direction for the program.

The Religious School can be reached at extension 15 on the Temple's phone system.

School cancellations will be listed with WTIC 1080AM and WFSB Channel 3.

Religious School Committee

The goal of the Temple Sinai Religious School Committee is to support, enhance and implement the curriculum of the school. New members are welcome. Contact the office at 860-561-1055 or e-mail at school@sinaict.org Your call or e-mail will receive a response.

Special Needs Classes

Temple Sinai has a Sunday school class for special needs children who have developmental disabilities. The class focuses on the spirit and ideals of the Jewish holidays and Jewish life through the sharing of prayers, rituals and songs. Holidays are presented through the use of music, stories, games and other creative techniques of communicating these concepts. For additional information, please call Joyce Sturm in the Temple office. Check back for new classes to be offered.

Adult Education

We are well underway in expanding our adult education at Temple Sinai. We currently offer two on-going learning opportunities: Torah study every Shabbat morning at 9:00 a.m. and Current Events on the 3rd Tuesday of the month at 12:30 p.m. We also invite guest speakers for some Friday evening services, as well as Sunday morning speakers and Saturday evening activities.

Adult Hebrew Classes

Our Cantor, Donna Gordon, offers three classes:

  • Prayer Book Hebrew, a basic course

  • Basic Biblical Hebrew, for those who can read Hebrew well but not translate it or have graduated from the Prayer Book Hebrew class

  • Biblical Hebrew, a more advanced course for those who can read and translate Hebrew

Adult Bar/Bat Mitzvah

Searching for a spiritual experience? Want to fulfill a lifelong dream? Want to affirm or reaffirm your Jewish commitment? Come explore the process of becoming an adult Bar/Bat Mitzvah. Please call the Temple office for more information.

As we explore possibilities for future programs, some of our most exciting ideas are, unfortunately, bigger than our budget. As a way of supporting our learning opportunities, we would like to suggest that members of our Temple community wishing to honor a loved one or a special occasion may do so by underwriting a special event or speaker. Please call the Temple office if you’d like more information about this.

Many thanks to the hard-working Adult Education Committee. Please join in by coming and learning with us!
